August Wrap Up

Another month another disaster reading-wise. Reading slump still here, we had a delivery at work which mean crazy 2 weeks, plus I have some other issues at work that kind of mess with my psychology and finally a wedding to plan… Not a good month. But what can we do…This is life… So here what I managed to actually reader start reading

I was approved for both the e-Arc and the audio book on Netgalley so I should be further in. Unfortunately, I think… Maybe it’s not for me. But it’s still early. We’ll see how it goes….

The only book I was able to officially finish this month, and I’m sad to say it wasn’t a hit. I always feel bad when I don’t give a high rating to self-published books but this one needed a little bit more editing.

And this was my first DNF of the year! Again I feel so but for DNRing a self published but… I got at 20% a the story felt repetitive, nothing really was happening, and I had no idea were the story was going.

But I think what annoyed me the most was that every time that something interesting was happening it was always “off-screen” and we were told about it instead. For example, at some point, one of our two MC learns something about what girls with her power are supposed to do when a baby girl is born with a specific set of power. And instead of describing the actual scene where the teacher tells their pupils about that and have a live reaction to what is said, what we got was “Today we learn this and that really upset this person and now they are crying.”. Why choose to tell this is such a boring way?!

Anyway, I was already in a reading slump and pushing myself to read something that I didn’t enjoy wasn’t going to fix that so I DNFed it.

I’m enjoying this one. It is actually very well written. My only issue is that I’m more than 50% in and I don’t feel there is any plot really and I still don’t really know where the story is going. Maybe this is a more character-driven book and to be honest, it would be me first one (I’m usually a more plot-driven reader). Fingers cross the plot will get a little bit more on the front soon.

What about you? What books did you read in August? Let me know in the comments!
