Synopsis (1)

Seventeen-year-old Tempe was born into a world of water. When the Great Waves destroyed her planet five hundred years ago, its people had to learn to survive living on the water, but the ruins of the cities below still called. Tempe dives daily, scavenging the ruins of a bygone era, searching for anything of value to trade for Notes. It isn’t food or clothing that she wants to buy, but her dead sister’s life. For a price, the research facility on the island of Palindromena will revive the dearly departed for twenty-four hours before returning them to death. It isn’t a heartfelt reunion that Tempe is after; she wants answers. Elysea died keeping a terrible secret, one that has ignited an unquenchable fury in Tempe: Her beloved sister was responsible for the death of their parents. Tempe wants to know why.

But once revived, Elysea has other plans. She doesn’t want to spend her last day in a cold room accounting for a crime she insists she didn’t commit. Elysea wants her freedom and one final glimpse at the life that was stolen from her. She persuades Tempe to break her out of the facility, and they embark on a dangerous journey to discover the truth about their parents’ death and mend their broken bond. But they’re pursued every step of the way by two Palindromena employees desperate to find them before Elysea’s time is up–and before the secret behind the revival process and the true cost of restored life is revealed.

FirstImpression (1)

I admit that when I first saw the cover on I total ignored it. The cover gave me a murder mystery kind of vibe so I wasn’t interested. But then I took the time and read the synopsis and I found out that I was wrong it was more or a dystopian story and it sounded very interesting, so I got the first pages and I’m glad I did.

In the first pages, we get to know our main character Tempe. When we start the book she is diving underwater among the ruins of our world that have been submerged for hundreds of year, looking for artefacts to exchanged for Notes (money). We get a lot of back story about her and her family and what happened to them. Some could say that it was a little info-dumpy but I didn’t mind. There is so much to this world that we need some info to understand the world and what is going on. And the world does sound very intriguing. Living on a small island made of whatever survived the flood and a group of islands that still have ground to be able to grow some sort of food.

Then we have Palindromena  a company that revives dead for 24 hours so their relatives can have one more day with them. It sounds super creepy and dark but also so intriguing. And if you and the mystery of what happened to Tempe’s parents and the fact that only her dead sister know, I’m sold!

We also get the perspective of another character, Lor, a boy that works at Palindromena and also has some heavy past and secrets. Being a YA book I’m guessing he is also the love interest of our protagonist but I really curious to see what their story will be. I do have an idea on how everything will start but how will happen later can be anything.

In conclusion, I’m sold and hyped for this book. I will definitely buy the book when it’s out and give a full review!
